From the elephants' pov, it's not humans that are hurting them, it's something else entirely. I like that, because they & humans should stay on friendly terms, which includes not (unintentionally) destroying the humans' food sources. Try to get along whenever possible.
Very informative. And by the way, as per the records, this bee method doesn't seem to work in Asia. Here in Sri Lanka, this method was used in few places but turned out to be unsuccesful. And as I remember it was the fact that the Bees are active at the day time but the Elephants enter villages at night. Dont know whether it is something with the species of bee though.
@@danniichoo1703 Human elephant conflict is constantly rising in an alarming rate here in Sri Lanka. All we have learnt is elephants can't be easily stopped using a simple physical barrier. The best way is sustainable development plans in the long run. Assessing and identifying their ancient corridors for them to migrate between the forests could help in a very impactful manner. Short term solution currently proven to be somewhat successful is the "Temporary Electric fences" around the villages and farmlands making them able to use the remaining land area as they wish and as they used to do until human encroachments occur. In India, the far east side farmers had the same problem, so they grew some of the most spiciest chillies known to man on the boarders of the crop lands.
Great video. I am so glad a great mind spoke about this idea and put an end to Elephant and human farm interactions. This is so helpful to keep elephants at bay.
Hiya! I knew about this method, but never saw it at work just phenomenal! Thanks for showing me! :D Now all those african farmers need to do is adopt permaculture, and start working with multi-crop system !! Btw do you guys know about Mossy Earth? Maybe y'all should do a colabb!

It feels to me this should have been a millenium old technique. But for some reason a modern scientist had to come up with it for the local population. Its so bizarre.

Hooray for Dr. Lucy King! What she has discovered will change the relationship between man, elephants and bees forever! I guess you are destined for great things when you are named Dr. King!
Nice to see homo sapiens being sapient. Use that grey matter! As stated by others: why did this take as long as it did to get figured out? One would have thought this would have been discovered ages ago, through observation.
They should do what China started to do, grow crops in elephant lands. They cut down a bunch of woods and start growing crops and fruits elephants can eat.
Get rid of the people, not the elephants! People are expanding into traditional elephant territories, people are the interlopers; people are the "invasive species"...remove the people not the elephants!
Absolutely. There needs to be big buffer zones between habitats and farms. Having the humans right next to the wilderness guarantees conflicts and call also lead to zoonosis (diseases jumping from animals to humans).
well then it’s not the brainchild of Dr. King, respectfully, but the local peoples whose knowledge were the bedrock of her thesis & subsequent research. let’s do better when talking about local communities in science.

You can do the same In a good way to help people save themselves or atleast change the mind of a few people, which is also invaluably important and vital to see real change. Don’t give up bro keep on being a savior of the planet no matter how futile it seems at times, we will have to change soon or we will be changed by Mother Nature regardless, it’s time for her to heal soon no matter if it means another mass extinction
How come it's considered alright to call your significant other "Honey" but not so much for using the term "Bee Vomit"? Even tho honey and bee vomit are the exact same thing. This is most illogical...
Ok everything is fine until I hear that they also made a bee farm over there. Bee farm harms bee more then it helps em so unless they have forced the queen bee or stay there or killed em, there is no such reason for the bees to come back to the same place. Assuming that the bees are still there then I am thinking that the queen bees r forced to stay there (by cutting her winds) or the queen has been killed and replaced with a new one. So that's bad in an already messed up honey farm. After saying that I would request to make a video, describing the bad side of industrial honey farms. Thanks a lot. Really like the videos :)

Excellent. Plus the farmers get honey too.
Those elephants said no the bees and no the the farmlands. They said it ain't worth it. 😂

So many wins with this method. Great work.
What a great idea, use bees to keep the elephants at bay using bees, brilliant. I wanted to thank Terra Mater for making another great video.

the bees were probably not disturbed at night then, they use ropes in this video to show the beehives rocking as the elephants touched them.
